L'Augusta State è stata fondata nel 1925 come Georgia Normal School. La squadra di basket è stata fondata nel 1926. I Jaguars si sono uniti alla NCAA Division II nel 1982. Hanno vinto il campionato della Peach Belt Conference cinque volte, nel 1986, 1987, 1989, 1990 e 2010. Hanno anche vinto il campionato NCAA Division II nel 1986.
