La squadra è stata fondata nel 1998 come Aston Villa Reserves, e ha giocato nella Central League fino al 2012, quando si è trasferita alla Premier Reserve League. Nel 2016, la Premier Reserve League è stata ribattezzata Premier League 2.
L'Aston Villa U23 ha vinto la Premier Reserve League due volte, nel 2004 e nel 2010. Ha vinto anche la Central League Cup una volta, nel 1999.
La squadra gioca le sue partite casalinghe al Bodymoor Heath Training Ground, a Sutton Coldfield.
